Guides for the noir spaceship-life sim — updated for 1.0

Ostranauts is Blue Bottle Games' noir spaceship-life sim — you captain a barely-functional ship, manage a crew with real psychological needs, and try to stay ahead of debt in a hard-boiled Solar System. After nearly six years in Early Access it reached 1.0 on August 3, 2026, and holds a Mostly Positive rating from more than three thousand Steam reviews.

The 1.0 launch was rough, and the recovery has been unusually candid: the developer publicly acknowledged they underestimated the pain points, then shipped fixes at a steady clip. The patch tracker follows every update in plain language — including v1.0.0.11, which finally fixed the notorious Save on Exit hang — and what's new in 1.0 covers the feature side of the release.

If you are new, start with the beginner guide, then read ships, crew and life support — the three systems that quietly end most first playthroughs. Money making covers how salvage and gigs actually pay, and errors collects the launch-era bugs with their current status.

Facts here come from official patch notes and the live game, community findings are labelled as such, and every page shows a Last checked date — because a sim this dense changes shape with every update.
