Returning from EA? You also missed these
1.0 lands on top of two huge 2026 milestones, and most pre-2026 guides ignore them:
- Fire in the Hold (v0.15, April 21, 2026): ship-mounted weapons (point-defense cannons, 150mm mass throwers, missile and decoy launchers, armor cladding), fire and smoke simulation, asteroid mining, rifles, Steam Deck and gamepad support, Steam Cloud saves. Ship combat centers on the proxy war around Ceres.
- Across the System (v0.15.1.x, June–July 2026): Steam Workshop rollout, gig and ferry rebalancing (PASS trips now advance the calendar), big crew-AI fixes, save reliability, Venus fixes. Details in our patch notes tracker.
What 1.0 is not
It’s not a content reset or a 2.0-style overhaul — it’s the capstone on the 0.15 era. And it’s explicitly not the end: the devs committed to at least another year of development. Launch reviews praise the sim depth; the recurring criticisms are UI friction, crew-AI jank and performance on big saves — worth knowing before you dive in.

FAQ
When did Ostranauts 1.0 come out?
August 3, 2026, after almost six years in Early Access (it entered EA on September 10, 2020).
Is development over now that 1.0 is out?
No. Blue Bottle Games has publicly committed to at least one more year of post-1.0 development, covering fixes, UI improvements and feature ideas that didn't make the deadline.
Do Early Access saves work in 1.0?
Throughout the 0.15.1.x series, saves from v0.15.0.0 and later stayed compatible. The 1.0 announcement doesn't spell out save compatibility explicitly — we're re-verifying this and will update.
Is Ostranauts worth returning to after 1.0?
If you left before April 2026 you missed ship weapons, fires, asteroid mining, Steam Workshop, the gig rework AND the 1.0 content — functionally a different game. Recent Steam reviews sit at Mostly Positive.
